In my community (Africa), dark knuckles come with a stigma because people believe you can only get it from bleaching. And people who bleach their skin are sinners.
They are ungrateful because they are telling God indirectly that they don’t like their skins.
So, when they see dark knuckles, they give you the look. You know the kind of looks reserved for those who already have seats in hell with their names on it.
However, dark knuckles like pigmentations on the face are not always as results of bleaching, although sometimes it might be.
Therefore, it is very important that you know why your knuckles are dark before you launch the search for its cure.
There are so many other causes of dark knuckles apart from bleaching, like Vitamin B-12 deficiency, certain drugs, dead skin cells, redundancy, genetics, exposure to high chemicals, some underlying health issues like Acanthosis Nigricans, Prediabetes and Diabetes, Autoimmune disorders and so on. Even without the stigma, dark knuckles can be embarrassing and annoying. So, next time you see someone having it, if you can’t help, at least don’t make them feel worse than they do already.
No one likes any part of them looking darker or different from the rest. We all cherish glowing even skin tone or how you can minimize it. This is the purpose of this post as well as how to minimize the appearance of black patches on our skin.
How To Remove Dark Knuckles Naturally
Exfoliate daily: This is what I do to my knuckles. I was exfoliating daily to get rid of the dead cells. And once I was satisfied with the results, I started doing it once to twice a week.
Don’t just focus on your face alone; every other part of your body deserves some love, especially your hands.
Your hands deserve as much pampering as your face if not more. Moisturise your hands daily, concentrate on the back of your hands. Make a fist and spread some moisturisers on the knuckles.
Then gently rub them in. And don’t forget to apply sunscreen on your hands, and the back of your hands when you are going out.
Using Natural Bleachers:

Lemon Juice and Honey: You can mix equal parts lemon juice and honey on your knuckles. With a cotton or your finger tips, gently rub it in, leave on for 15-20 minutes and rinse off.\
You can also make a paste of turmeric and sugar and use it as a scrub on your knuckles for about 3-4 times a week. Leave on for about 10-15 minutes and rinse off.
Using Vitamin E and Milk Cream:
Vitamin E can be used as a lightening agent on dark areas like knuckles.
Take one capsule of Vitamin E, squeeze out the juice, add one teaspoonful of milk to it, mix thoroughly and apply to your knuckles and other dark areas like your elbows. Massage it in and leave on for 10 minutes, then rinse off.
Products containing Niacinamide, Ellagic acid, Lipohydroxy acid, Liquorice extract, and so on can help lighten dark areas on the skin, like knuckles, elbows.
You can get a prescription for them from your doctor to be safe, so that you don’t make things worse.
Also, take Vitamin B12 Supplement.
A deficiency of Vitamin B12 can cause the joints to darken.
